Local COVID-19 Response
State of Local Emergency (SOLE)
On March 18, 2020, the City of Brooks declared a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) to support the Province of Alberta’s efforts to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. With Royal Assent given to Bill 13, SOLEs that are in effect for pandemics can be in effect for up to 90-days. Given this, the City of Brooks’ SOLE will be extended to the end of the day on June 30, 2020.
We are requesting our residents delay any planned yard and garage sales until the province lifts its restrictions on gatherings and guidelines for social distancing. Yard and garage sales tend to be ‘hands-on’ affairs and almost exclusively involve cash transactions – both of which can cause the spread of COVID-19. The use of cash at these types of events also opens up more opportunity for transmission.
Those who need to sell or give away items are asked to create ‘online garage sales’ through platforms like, Brooks Buy Sell Trade on Facebook or Kijiji and coordinate contactless sales and pick-ups.
If you are not able to delay your sale, it is important that precautions are put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19. Please be thoughtful about your decision to host a yard sale and allowing various strangers to enter your property. Consider implementing these guidelines in an effort to keep yourself and the community safe from illness.
