Tax Payments are due June 30th of each year. Taxes are usually mailed out by May 17th each year. The due date is specified on the Tax Notices and is also advertised two weeks prior to the Tax Deadline in the two local news papers (Chronicle & Brooks Bulletin). A letter to the property owner is included in the tax notices which provides a breakdown of the millrate and financial graphs on operating expenditures and operating revenues.
Payments can be made directly to the City Office during regular business hours, through internet banking, telephone banking and at most financial institutions. The City accepts cash, cheques, money orders, interact and post dated cheques. For added convenience, there is a drop box located at the front entrance of the building (east side). Taxpayers can also participate in the a pre-authorized payment plan to make tax payments more manageable.
July 1st an 8% penalty is applied to current taxes that are outstanding. In addition, a 4% penalty is applied to current outstanding taxes on Nov 1st and a 12% penalty is applied on Mar 1 of the following year to all outstanding taxes.
