Brooks Region Economic Development

Brooks Region Economic Development enjoys a strong and productive working relationship with a number of local agencies that provide various levels of service to businesses in our community and region.


County of Newell

The County is a partner with the City for the provision of Economic Development services for the region. The City and the County each contribute funding towards the program and oversee the program through the Joint Services Committee. The partnership allows the region to approach economic development for the benefit of all businesses, communities and industries focusing on regional promotion, entrepreneurship, business retention, and expansion, along with investment readiness.


Brooks & District Chamber of Commerce

Brooks & District Chamber of Commerce (BDCC) provides leadership for regional business members providing education, advocacy, networking, and marketing opportunities for growth and sustainability in our business community.

The Chamber of Commerce represents over 300 community businesses and organizations and provides networking and marketing opportunities through activities such as their Annual Trade Show, Small Business Week & Small Business Awards Banquet, partnership with the Newell Regional Tourism Association, Membership Business Directory, website links, referral services and a variety of seminars and luncheons. It is the aim of the BDCC to help its members grow their businesses and increase their visibility.


Community Futures

The Community Futures Entre Corp and Community Futures Chinook offices provide small business services to people living in rural communities. They offer a wide range of business loan options, training courses, personal business coaching, and networking events. Most of these services are either free or available for a small fee. Some programs have specific eligibility requirements that are outlined in our specialized small business programs section.


Brooks Region Tourism

Brooks Region Tourism is the Region's Destination Marketing Organization (DMO). They were created back in 2008 and since then have been working to enhance the tourism opportunities of the Brooks Region. They serve the City of Brooks, Town of Bassano, Villages of Duchess and Rosemary, and the County of Newell. Working with industry operators, partners, and stakeholders, Brooks Region Tourism works to create opportunity, advocacy, and information about the Region for tourists and residents.


Downtown Brooks (BRZ)

A Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ) is a self-help mechanism that enables business people in a commercial district to form an organization for the purpose of attracting and retaining customers, shoppers, and clients to the business area. The Downtown Brooks  BRZ is the largest shopping area in Brooks. It offers over 70 unique stores and professional services and is a non-profit, membership-funded organization dedicated to improving the physical, economic and social environment of Downtown Brooks. The Business Revitalization Zone was established in 1992 through a bylaw of the City of Brooks under Provincial legislation. 

All businesses within the BRZ are subject to the BRZ Tax.


BusinessLink

Business Link is Alberta's entrepreneurial hub. They are a nonprofit organization that helps people navigate the steps toward starting their own businesses. They provide one-on-one support and guidance, market research, access to experts, training, networking opportunities, and specialized support for Indigenous entrepreneurs.
